The main advantage of staging the AFCON for every two years is the infrastructure development because many African countries are poor and many took that as an advantage to improve and expand infrastructures. Take Ghana for example. We are struggling to get an approved stadia for fifa competitions simply because there is no way the government will over look other important and needy sectors such as roads, health and education to build state of the art stadiums unless we host major tournaments like African cup of nations. Ivory Coast has now six state of the art fifa approved stadium by hosting the AFCON last year. The next AFCON will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania and we can all see the massive expansions and facelifts going on there.Too bad this current CaF president has yielded to the pressure which has always been there and won’t stop even if it’s hosted every five years. In fact those Europeans from their comments don’t respect the AFCON and if not the newly introduced club World Cup won’t we have played the tournament at the end of last season. Too bad for African football and for Ghana who will now have to wait for many years before it can win an AFCON.
