Asante Kotoko captain, Samba O’Neil
Asante Kotoko captain, Samba O’Neil has reportedly informed the hierarchy of club about his desire to leave after the expiration of his contract with the Porcupine Warriors.
According to multiple media reports, the Congolese defender has stalled contract extension negotiations for close to a year as he is poised on leaving as a free agent.
Confirming the situation, Asante Kotoko Communications Director Sarfo Duku said negotiations have dragged on longer than expected, leaving the defender’s future uncertain.
“We sent a new proposal to Samba and his team, and we await their response. Looking at how long it has taken, because we started this conversation almost a year ago, it appears to us that it is becoming difficult for the player to renew his contract."
“But we keep pressing with the hope that he will have a change of mind because he feels that he would want to continue somewhere,” Sarfo Duku told Luv FM.
O’Neil has been a pivotal figure for the Porcupine Warriors, featuring in 19 matches and scoring three goals in the ongoing 2025/2026 Ghana Premier League season.
