Prince Yaw Owusu is the interim head coach of Asante Kotoko
The interim head coach of Asante Kotoko, Prince Yaw Owusu, has blamed his team’s defeat to Hearts of Oak in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday on a mistake by goalkeeper Mohamed Camara.
The coach, who previously worked as an assistant, took charge of the Super Clash just a week after the management of the Kumasi-based club parted ways with head coach Abdul Karim Zito.
In the high-stakes encounter played at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kotoko put up a good performance but suffered a narrow defeat to the Phobians.
A header from Baba Adamu beat Camara in the 15th minute after the goalkeeper was caught off his line.
Speaking in his post-match interview, Prince Owusu expressed his satisfaction with the performance of his Kotoko players, arguing that the mistake by the goalkeeper cost the team the match.
“I think the boys did their best. They kept fighting to the end. It’s just the mistake from the goalkeeper that cost us all this,” the Kotoko interim coach said.
He continued, “This defeat makes our title ambition very difficult. Now we need to fight very hard before we can get the title.”
Sunday’s defeat to Hearts of Oak has seen Asante Kotoko drop to fifth in the Ghana Premier League standings. The team is on 35 points and now nine points behind league leaders Medeama SC.
