Arsenal head coach, Mikel Arteta has said he is proud of his club’s set-piece goals despite criticisms from some ex-players and football pundits following their 2-1 win over Chelsea.

Ivorian midfielder Yaya Toure, speaking on Sky Sports after the match, expressed disappointment in Arsenal’s performance for failing to score from open play.

The former Manchester City midfielder lamented the Gunners’ reliance on set-piece goals to grind out results, considering the caliber of players they possess.

"The first half was okay, quite okay. I feel a bit disappointed because we want to see a flourishing game, passing, attacking, and scoring chances. Three goals from set pieces, a bit strange for a derby! A really important win for Arsenal, but as a fan, I want to see more," he said.

During the post-match press conference, when Arteta was asked about his team’s reliance on set pieces, the coach admitted he is satisfied with goals from such situations.

The Spanish manager noted that, given the intensity of the game and Chelsea’s defensive prowess, it was Arsenal’s set-piece brilliance that secured the three points.

"Chelsea are the second-best with one less goal, look at the talent they have. We have lost points to long throws, and lately we haven’t scored many from set pieces. Today we did it. To have these options is great. They can be a nightmare to defend against. On tactics boards we can resolve any situation, but when it’s live and they are so aggressive, pushy, effective, difficult to handle, it’s very tough," Arteta said.

Arsenal’s title challenge remains on course as they lead the Premier League table with 64 points, followed by Manchester City with 59. The gap will be cut to two if City win their outstanding match.
