Real Madrid have confirmed that forward Rodrygo has suffered a ruptured Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) and a torn lateral meniscus in his right leg following their defeat to Getafe CF.

In an official statement released on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, the club said, “Following tests carried out today on our player Rodrygo by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a torn anterior cruciate ligament and a torn lateral meniscus in his right leg.”

The Brazilian winger is expected to be sidelined for approximately 10 months, missing the 2026 World Cup with a return projected in 2027.

The injury occurred during Monday’s 1-0 loss to Getafe at the Santiago Bernabéu. Rodrygo had only just returned from a recent muscle problem and was introduced in the 55th minute, replacing youngster Thiago Pitarch. He completed the remainder of the match, but concerns emerged after the final whistle.

Subsequent medical examinations confirmed the severity of the damage, dealing a significant blow to both the player and the club at a crucial stage of the season.

Rodrygo’s long-term absence now forces Madrid to reshuffle their attacking options as they navigate the months ahead without one of their key wide forwards.
