Roberto De Zerbi appointed Tottenham Hotspur manager on five-year deal

Tottenham Hotspur have appointed Roberto De Zerbi as their new head coach on a five-year contract as the club looks to steer itself away from a deepening Premier League crisis.

The Italian manager arrives in north London with Spurs hovering just above the relegation zone, sitting 17th and only one point clear with seven league matches remaining this season.

Despite the perilous situation, De Zerbi’s contract reportedly contains no relegation clause, a sign of the club’s long-term commitment to the appointment.

“I am delighted to be joining this fantastic football club, which is one of the biggest and most prestigious in the world,” De Zerbi said after his appointment.

The move comes just two days after the departure of Igor Tudor, whose turbulent spell in charge lasted only 44 days. Tudor failed to secure a single Premier League victory during his short tenure, leaving Tottenham searching once again for stability in what has become a chaotic season.

Spurs are now turning to their third head coach of the campaign as they battle to avoid their first top-flight relegation since 1977. Their league form has been alarming, with the club winless in the competition since December 2025.

De Zerbi was widely regarded as the club’s overwhelming first choice for the role, according to reports from Sami Mokbel. The Italian has built a reputation across Europe for his attacking philosophy and strong statistical record, boasting an impressive win percentage and points-per-game ratio during his previous managerial spells.

As part of the restructuring of the coaching staff, De Zerbi will retain Bruno Saltor, who served as assistant to Tudor, within his backroom team in north London.

His first major challenge will come quickly. Tottenham’s next league match is scheduled for April 12 against Sunderland.
