Bayern Munich players celebrated their slim win over Real Madrid
The magical moments at the Bernabéu were nowhere to be found as Real Madrid succumbed to a 2-1 home defeat to Bayern Munich in the quarter-final stage of the UEFA Champions League on April 7, 2026.
The game began with Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius Jr launching relentless attacks, but Manuel Neuer denied them on multiple occasions to keep the visitors in the game.
The Bavarians grew into the match and became vibrant as Michael Olise repeatedly twisted and turned Álvaro Carreras to penetrate the Los Blancos defense.

In the 40th minute, Serge Gnabry delivered a defense-splitting pass which resulted in Luis Díaz's opening goal.
Moments later, Olise controlled the ball on the wing and set up Harry Kane outside the box, who struck from distance to double Bayern’s lead.
Madrid coach Álvaro Arbeloa brought on Jude Bellingham, a move that helped the team take control as they intensified their push for a goal.
Trent Alexander-Arnold’s precise cross found Mbappé, who tapped it into the net. The home side created several chances to equalize, but once again Neuer stood firm, producing crucial saves to secure Bayern’s 2-1 victory.
The outstanding performances of Olise and Neuer, who won the Man of the Match award, silenced the Spanish fans at the Bernabéu.
Los Blancos now face a difficult task of overturning the deficit in the return leg at the Allianz Arena, or else the in-form German side will progress to the semi-finals.
Elsewhere, Premier League side Arsenal traveled to Portugal and secured a 1-0 win over Sporting CP thanks to a Kai Havertz goal.
The quarter-final return legs will take place on April 14 and 15, 2026.
