Carlos Queiroz was sent off during the 2021 AFCON
The arrival of Carlos Queiroz as Ghana’s head coach brings not just tactical experience but a fiery edge that has followed him across continents and competitions.
Throughout his career, the Portuguese tactician has built a reputation for confrontations, often stepping beyond the technical area and into heated exchanges with referees, journalists, and even fans.
One of the most notable incidents came during the semi-finals of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, when Queiroz, then Egypt coach, was sent off after squaring up to the referee during a tense clash against Cameroon.
His frustration boiled over on the touchline, capturing global attention and reinforcing his image as a combative presence during high-stakes matches.
Anger on social media over Carlos Queiroz’s World Cup record
But that moment was far from isolated.
At the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Queiroz was involved in a heated exchange with Morocco boss Hervé Renard during Iran’s dramatic encounter with the North Africans.
The tension spilled beyond the pitch, reflecting the intensity he brings to every contest.
Off the pitch, his confrontational streak has also surfaced. Queiroz has openly clashed with journalists in press conferences, at one point telling a reporter to “pay” if he wanted answers.
In other instances, he has reacted to jeering fans, taunting those who mocked him from the stands rather than ignoring the noise.
