Ghanaian midfielder Frederick Ansah Botchway has suggested that the Zimbabwean top flight currently offers stronger competition than the Ghana Premier League (GPL), while also reflecting on the high standards during his time with Accra Hearts of Oak.

Speaking in an interview with Frank-Kamal Acheampong on Sports Check on GhanaWeb TV, Botchway shared his assessment of the competitive levels between the two leagues based on his experience.

“Currently, I think their league is there. It is very, very good, and the competition is there,” he said, in reference to the Zimbabwean league.

The midfielder, however, was quick to draw a comparison with his time at Hearts of Oak, where he believes the Ghana Premier League was operating at a higher level.

“Like my time when I was in Hearts of Oak, the competition was there, the level was high,” Botchway explained.

He further stressed that while the present GPL remains competitive, it does not quite match the intensity and quality he experienced during his stint with the Phobians.

“Compared to them, it’s okay, but my time in Hearts of Oak, the competition was very high compared to now,” he added.
