Collins Atta Poku, Chief Executive Officer of Aduana Stars, has taken issue with remarks made by Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams, who suggested that the Black Stars could win the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Kofi Adams, during an interview with Channel One TV, urged Ghanaians to remain hopeful ahead of the tournament despite the challenges.

The minister stated that the Black Stars have a good squad capable of performing well at the tournament and may even go on to win the World Cup.

In response, Atta Poku slammed the minister for what he believes is a highly unrealistic comment.

The sports journalist argued that the current Black Stars squad is not strong enough to compete for the World Cup title.

During an interview on Pure FM, when asked about Kofi Adams’ remark, Atta Poku retorted: “You are going to win what? We don’t [have what it takes to win the World Cup]. Minister, we don’t. Some motivations are somehow. I watched one of Harry Kane’s goals and said, if something happens, what are we going to say?”

He went on to advise officials of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the sports ministry to be cautious in their remarks ahead of the tournament and not raise expectations unnecessarily.

Atta Poku noted that Carlos Queiroz will need time to settle, and such comments may put undue pressure on the team.

“The leaders, we plead with them, especially starting with the FA President, that as Queiroz has accepted the job, he, the management committee members, and the sports minister should not raise expectations for Ghanaians…” he added.
