Canadian High Commissioner to Ghana, Myriam Montrat
The Canadian High Commissioner to Ghana, Myriam Montrat, has cautioned football fans and prospective travellers that owning a FIFA World Cup match ticket does not guarantee entry into Canada.
She issued the warning at the National Forum on Trafficking Through Sports, held on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at the ISSER Conference Hall.
According to her, major international tournaments like the FIFA World Cup often attract thousands of travellers, creating opportunities for traffickers to exploit unsuspecting victims with false promises.
“A match ticket is not a visa. Every traveller must still satisfy the required immigration procedures before travelling,” she stressed.
Commissioner Montrat noted that the caution has become necessary as some individuals wrongly assume that purchasing a World Cup ticket automatically grants them access to the host country.
She therefore urged the public to rely on official information from embassies and authorised agencies when planning trips for international sporting events.
The High Commissioner further reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to collaborating with international partners to combat human trafficking and promote safe migration ahead of the tournament.
