Former Black Stars defender, Samuel Osei Kuffuor has questioned whether Ghanaian parents living abroad would allow their son, if he had the skill set of Jude Bellingham, to play for Ghana or England.

He explained by citing a scenario in which Ghanaian parents raise their son in Europe, and the child grows to become a superstar footballer.

Kuffuor indicated that when such a player reaches the level of Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham, choosing between Ghana and England puts the foreign country in an advantageous position.

“As a Ghanaian parent, you’re based in Europe and your son is playing so well. If your son is Jude Bellingham, with both parents from Ghana, will you allow him to play for Ghana or England?” he asked in an interview with 3Sports.

Expanding further, the former Bayern Munich star stressed that Ghana will always be a second choice for players with dual nationality, and the public must accept this reality.

The 2001 Champions League winner stated that the only way to address this challenge is for football authorities to roll out plans to engage such players at a young age in order to secure their commitment.

He noted that the likes of Jeremy Doku of Belgium, Jeremie Frimpong of the Netherlands, and others might have played for the Black Stars if they had been approached earlier.

“Because whether we like it or not, we are second choice. That’s what people have to understand. If we had gotten Doku, Frimpong, and all those players when they were young, they would have played for Ghana. That’s why I’m saying we need offices in Europe to identify and recruit them early,” he said.
