Reports suggest that Baba Abdul Rahman is considering a return to the Ghana national football team setup ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, nearly three years after stepping away from international duty.

The left-back, who was part of Ghana’s squad at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, has not featured for the national team since September 2023, when he played in an AFCON qualifier against the Central African Republic.

Since then, his absence has been a major talking point, especially given the team’s ongoing struggle to find a consistent option in his position.

Baba Rahman’s withdrawal from the Black Stars followed a difficult period, including heavy backlash from sections of supporters during that final appearance in Kumasi. The hostile reception reportedly played a key role in his decision to step back, despite remaining in good form at club level.

Attempts by successive national team coaches to reintegrate him have so far proven unsuccessful. Former coach Otto Addo confirmed that the defender repeatedly declined invitations, choosing to stay away from the squad even as Ghana cycled through multiple alternatives at left-back.

However, with the World Cup on the horizon and Ghana seeking stability in defence, speculation is growing that the experienced full-back could have a change of heart. His potential return would offer a timely boost to a position that has lacked continuity in his absence.

For now, it remains a developing situation, but one that could significantly shape the Black Stars’ preparations for 2026.
