Ghana is set to host a major continental athletics championship for the first time in its history, marking a significant milestone for the sport in the country.
The development has been further boosted by a strategic partnership with Peeva aimed at strengthening preparations and ensuring a successful event.
President of Ghana Athletics, Bawah Fuseini, described the moment as a “big thing” for the nation, highlighting both the prestige of hosting and the long-term benefits tied to the newly signed agreement.
“This is a big thing for us. Hosting the African Championship for the first time is historic, and this partnership goes beyond just the competition , it is about the future,” Fuseini said.
The partnership with Peeva will see the company provide 10,000 packs of water to support athletes and officials during the championship.
According to Fuseini, the agreement is not a one-off arrangement but the beginning of a longer-term collaboration.
“This partnership is not only for the African Championship. After the competition, we will sign another agreement. It’s something we are building for the future,” he explained.
Bawa Fuseini also emphasized that the support comes at a crucial time, as Ghana’s athletics community intensifies preparations toward upcoming global competitions, including the FIFA World Cup period, which often draws significant corporate attention and sponsorship.
“It’s a huge relief for us, especially as we move toward the World Cup period where many sponsors shift their focus. This support is very important for Ghana,” he noted.
He also expressed appreciation to Peeva for their commitment, urging the company to deepen its involvement in the sport.
“I would like to thank Peeva and encourage them to do even more. We will also ensure that this relationship is sustained,” Fuseini added.
