Wad Madany, Sudan, Feb. 14, GNA - Simon Ngomane, South Africa local coach, has blamed the eagerness of the Ghanaian team for their disappointing performance at the 2011 African Nations Championship (CHAN) underway in Sudan.
The Amabinneplaas beat neighbours Zimbabwe 2-1 in Omdurman, which the Stars should have replicated with a similar performance against Niger in Wad Madany, but it rather turned the opposite as the Stars bowed out of the tournament with no point after three games.
Speaking to GNA Sports in Wad Madany on Sunday, the confident posing Ngomane said the local Black Stars paid the price for their eagerness to impress in the competition.
"The Ghana team is one of the strong teams at the tournament, but was too eager to do well. I think there were much focused on the end result rather than the effort to put in and it threw them out of the window."
The 91pseudo-psychologist' trainer added that the Stars "lack of respect for opponents" was also a factor to their unexpected exit at the tournament designed exclusively for local-based footballers.
"In football, you have to respect your opponents. If you
do not, you pay the price," Ngomane added. The South African trainer likened his team's performance
to their focus on their input into a game other than the end
result. "I always tell my players our efforts into the game must
be the watchword. For me a winner is who gives his all to
achieve the result." South Africa will face Algeria at the quarter final stage on
Friday in Khartoum.
