Fabbi, Tang emerge champions at President Putter Golf Championship

The 2026 President Putter Golf Championship, staged at the Celebrity Golf Club, has ended successfully, with Catherine Fabbi and young Anthony Tang clinching the top honours in the ladies’ and men’s divisions respectively.

This year’s edition, dubbed the Ghana–China Friendship Treaty President Putter Golf Tournament, formed part of activities marking 65 years of diplomatic relations between Ghana and China.

The competition brought together 206 golfers from across the country, including professionals, amateurs, seniors, and ladies.

Sponsored by Giti Tyres and Tang Palace Hotel, the four-day event witnessed keen competition despite challenging weather conditions.

A strong Chinese presence added international appeal and reinforced the tournament’s objective of promoting sports diplomacy.

In the seniors’ category, Samuel Osei-Bediako emerged winner in the men’s division, finishing ahead of Jan Vogel and Kerr Nathan. Esther Antwi maintained her impressive form to win the ladies’ senior event, with Beatrice Vetsch-Bempong placing second.

Joelyn Emefa Nyarko, a student of Accra University College, delivered a standout performance to win the ladies’ Group B category, followed by Angelica Ayanful and Abena Faustina. In the ladies’ Group A division, Fabbi, who also serves as Lady Coordinator of the Ghana Golf Association, finished ahead of Letitia Amponsah-Mensah and Princess Nkansah-Boadu to claim the title.

In the men’s amateur events, Xie Ping topped Group C, with Yaw Asamoah and Ramson Danyo taking second and third places respectively. The Group A contest saw Anthony Tang dominate the field, finishing ahead of John K. Gaba and Shi-Jin Xing.

Results for the scratch category could not be completed due to time constraints. Meanwhile in the professional division of the same competition, Manassah Augustine beat Vincent Torgah to the GHC30,000 top prize in the men’s regulars whiles Emos Klobah won the senior’s category. Adjeley Jajah won the ladies pros version of the competition ahead of the likes of Jessica Tei.

General Manager of Giti Ghana, Wang Shu, expressed satisfaction with the successful organisation of the event and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting sports development in the country.

President of the Celebrity Golf Club, Tang Hong, and Club Captain Alex Oppong Baffoe commended the organisers and sponsors for a well-executed tournament and the impressive turnout. Former Ghanaian Ambassador to China and Chairman of the Ghana–China Friendship Association, Anani Demuyakor, underscored the role of sports in strengthening diplomatic ties and urged continued collaboration between Ghana and the Chinese community.

The President Putter Golf Championship remains one of the country’s premier golfing events, promoting excellence while fostering international friendship through sport.
