The Ministry of Finance (MoF) and the Black Stars World Cup 2026 Fundraising Committee have received a GH¢3 million support package from Stanbic Bank Ghana to aid Ghana’s campaign for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The cheque presentation ceremony took place in Accra on Thursday, May 7, 2026, as part of a broader $30 million fundraising drive aimed at supporting the Black Stars ahead of the tournament in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Presenting the cheque, Chief Executive of Stanbic Bank Ghana, Kwamina Asomaning, said the bank remains committed to supporting national development through sports.

“As a bank, we have been inextricably linked to sports in Ghana. We’ve been sponsors of tournaments, so we are quite excited to be in a position to contribute to our participation in this global event,” he said.
The GH¢3 million package has been structured into two parts. An initial GH¢1.5 million has been released immediately to support the Black Stars’ preparations and bonuses, while the remaining GH¢1.5 million has been tied to performance incentives should Ghana advance to the Round of 16 of the World Cup.
“As a bank, we’ve structured our support in two ways. Half of it will be a contribution to support more pressing needs, and we’ve also put the other portion as an incentive to encourage the team to look beyond just the first round and go further,” Asomaning added.
Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Nyarko Ampem, speaking on behalf of the fundraising committee, expressed gratitude to Stanbic Bank for responding to the national appeal.
“We just received GH¢3 million from Stanbic Bank. We are grateful that they have responded. On behalf of the committee, we want to sincerely thank you for responding to the national call to support our national team,” he stated.
Under the arrangement, if the Black Stars fail to reach the knockout stage, the remaining GH¢1.5 million will be donated to a charity chosen by the committee in collaboration with the Black Stars management team.
