Former Black Stars Defender - Anthony Baffoe
Former Black Stars defender, Anthony Baffoe has advised Ghana coach Carlos Queiroz to build his tactical approach around the strengths of the current squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Black Stars are currently in Cardiff for a week-long training camp as preparations intensify for the tournament.
Ghana will face Wales in an international friendly on June 2 before continuing the next phase of camping in the United States.
Speaking to GhanaWeb Sports, Baffoe emphasised the need for discipline, structure and compact football, insisting the current Black Stars side must focus on playing to its strengths rather than trying to replicate the dominance of past Ghana teams.
“We all wish the players good luck and for me the coach should have the adequate formation in regards to the players he has. I don’t think we are the Ghana like some years back that we play dominant football. I believe that we have to be compact and use the players accordingly,” Baffoe stated.
The former defender also highlighted the importance of deploying players in positions where they excel at club level, mentioning Manchester City forward Antoine Semenyo and Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew as examples.

“How do we put, for instance, Antoine Semenyo who had a fantastic season in the Premier League appropriately? How do we use Jordan? I’m just mentioning names appropriately. So for me, I think we should play very, very compact because the intensity is going to be very, very high,” he added.
Baffoe expressed confidence in the technical team and urged Ghanaians to rally behind the squad ahead of the World Cup.
“Once again, fully behind the coach, the technical team and the players. We are Ghanaians, we always remain Ghanaians. Sometimes we are not happy but as soon as the World Cup starts kicking off, we are 100% behind the team,” he said.
