The omission of Derrick Köhn from the Black Stars provisional World Cup squad has triggered a furious response from his uncle, Eric Akwasi Agyei, who has accused decision-makers of damaging the defender’s international future.

Speaking on Peace FM, Agyei did not hold back, insisting that Köhn’s exclusion from the 2026 FIFA World Cup preparation squad could have long-term consequences for the player’s career at international level.

“We have destroyed Derrick Arthur Köhn’s future. If anyone is behind his omission, it will not go well for them,” he said.

His comments reflect growing frustration from the player’s camp, with Agyei arguing that Köhn has been unfairly treated despite his willingness to represent Ghana and commit to the Black Stars project.

He claimed the situation goes beyond one player, suggesting deeper issues in how squad selections are handled.

“Let’s talk the truth because you’ve hurt the chances and future of the boy,” he added.

Agyei also questioned the consistency of selection decisions, arguing that players are often encouraged to commit to Ghana only to later be overlooked without clear explanation.

The emotional remarks come after head coach Carlos Queiroz named his squad for the upcoming international camp in Wales, where Ghana will continue preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the United States.

Köhn’s omission has been one of the most debated decisions, with fans divided over whether the defender deserved a place in the squad.
