Ghana’s national team will continue preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup when they take on the Wales national team in an international friendly on Tuesday, June 2, 2026.
The match offers Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz another opportunity to assess his squad ahead of the World Cup, where Ghana will face Panama, England and Croatia in Group D.
With several players competing for starting places and the absence of injured defender Alexander Djiku, the friendly is expected to provide valuable insight into the team’s readiness for the tournament.
Predicted Ghana line-up vs Wales (4-2-1-3)
Goalkeeper: Benjamin Asare
Since establishing himself as Ghana’s number one goalkeeper, Benjamin Asare has shown courage, determination and composure between the posts.
With Queiroz taking charge of his first match since being appointed head coach, the experienced shot-stopper is expected to retain his place and will be eager to demonstrate his qualities ahead of the World Cup.
Defenders: Marvin Senaya, Jonas Adjetey, Kojo Peprah, Baba Rahman
At right-back, Marvin Senaya is tipped to make his Black Stars debut. The Auxerre defender was called up for Ghana’s 2026 friendly matches but did not feature, making the clash against Wales a likely opportunity for his first international appearance.
In central defence, Jonas Adjetey is expected to partner Kojo Peprah. Adjetey endured a difficult international window in March 2026, making two costly errors against Austria and Germany, but the absence of Djiku through injury could hand him another chance to stake his claim for a World Cup role.
Peprah, meanwhile, impressed with his resilience against Germany earlier this year.
His versatility, recovery pace and willingness to defend aggressively could provide Ghana with much-needed energy in a backline lacking experience.
On the left side of defence, Baba Rahman is expected to return to the starting lineup.
Despite not featuring for the Black Stars for three years, the experienced full-back has continued to produce strong performances at club level and remains one of Ghana’s most reliable options in the position.
Midfielders: Caleb Yirenkyi, Thomas Partey, Jordan Ayew
Caleb Yirenkyi and Thomas Partey are expected to form the midfield base.
The pair could provide the protection needed for Ghana’s inexperienced defence, while Partey’s ability to carry the ball forward and dictate play will be crucial in transitioning from defence to attack.
Operating ahead of them is likely to be captain Jordan Ayew. The veteran attacker is expected to play in an advanced midfield role, linking play between midfield and attack while providing leadership and creativity in the final third.
Forwards: Christopher Bonsu Baah, Antoine Semenyo, Brandon Thomas-Asante
On the right wing, Christopher Bonsu Baah is expected to start after an impressive season at club level.
His direct running and ability to take on defenders could cause problems for the Wales defence.
On the opposite flank, Antoine Semenyo is likely to provide Ghana’s main attacking threat.
The Manchester City forward has developed into one of the Black Stars’ most important players thanks to his pace, strength and eye for goal.
Leading the line should be Brandon Thomas-Asante, who will be eager to strengthen his case for a starting role at the World Cup. His movement, pressing and physical presence make him a strong option to spearhead Ghana’s attack against Wales.
Predicted Ghana XI: Benjamin Asare; Marvin Senaya, Jonas Adjetey, Kojo Peprah, Baba Rahman; Caleb Yirenkyi, Thomas Partey; Jordan Ayew; Christopher Bonsu Baah, Antoine Semenyo, Brandon Thomas-Asante.
