Francis Jojo Bossman was player of Hearts of Oak
There was a time when Francis Joojo Bossman patrolled midfields across Ghana with the authority and composure that earned him the nickname “Makelele.”
The tough-tackling midfielder became a familiar face in the Ghana Premier League during the 2000s, first making his name at Berekum Arsenal before establishing himself as one of the key figures in a dominant Hearts of Oak side.
Bossman enjoyed a glittering spell with the Phobians, helping the club secure multiple league titles and continental success. His performances also earned him a call-up to the Black Stars, fulfilling the dream of representing Ghana at the highest level.
Like many footballers of his generation, his journey later took him beyond Ghana’s borders. He tested himself in Europe, spending several years in Serbia and also having a brief stint in Azerbaijan.

Along the way, he experienced the highs of winning silverware and the lows of injuries that threatened to derail his career.
As the years passed and his playing days drew to a close, Bossman gradually slipped out of the spotlight. The man who once battled opponents in packed stadiums was no longer making headlines on the football field, leaving many supporters wondering what had become of the former Hearts of Oak enforcer.
The answer lies far away from the dressing room and touchline. In a remarkable transition from football to traditional leadership, Bossman was crowned a chief in January 2022 at Sekyere Krobo in the Ashanti Region.
The former midfielder was enstooled under the name Nana Gyebre III, taking on the responsibility of serving and leading his community.
Today, while many remember him for his crunching tackles and commanding displays in midfield, Francis Joojo Bossman's role is no longer to marshal a football team.
Instead, the former Hearts of Oak star now occupies a royal stool, serving as a traditional ruler and community leader.
