Black Stars will compete at the 2026 World Cup
President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Okraku, has expressed confidence in the Black Stars squad heading to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting that Ghana will be represented by the best players available as they seek to compete with the world’s elite.
Speaking on The Delay Show, Okraku addressed expectations ahead of the tournament and backed the squad selected to represent the country in North America.
According to him, the players chosen for the World Cup are the best options available to Ghana at this moment, and he believes they have what it takes to compete on the biggest stage.
“Ghana will be represented by our best players available at the time. Ghana will be very competitive,” he said.

His comments come amid debate over some notable omissions from the squad, including Joseph Paintsil and defender Derrick Köhn, whose exclusions have generated discussion among supporters.
Despite those conversations, Okraku remains convinced that the team assembled has the quality required to make the nation proud.
The GFA president also urged Ghanaians not to underestimate the Black Stars, pointing to football’s history of unexpected outcomes.
“Everyone knows I’m very honest. I’ve seen bad teams win big tournaments. I’ve also seen good teams lose and win big tournaments,” he stated.
Ghana head into the tournament after a mixed preparation period that included a 1-1 draw against Wales in Cardiff before travelling to the United States for their final training camp.
The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama.
However, Okraku believes Ghana should approach the World Cup with belief rather than fear, insisting the team is heading into the competition determined to compete and challenge for success.
