Henry Asante Twum is the Communications Director of the GFA
The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has assured that Black Stars players and officials are safe in the United States as they prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to him, the team’s travel to the country was smooth, as they have been in constant touch with US authorities and landed at their base safely without the hassles experienced by other teams.
He indicated that the team also has its own security detail attached to protect officials from any attacks or chaos amid concerns.

“I’ll say that we are fine in terms of security. We have our own security men attached to the team, and we’ve been in touch with the American authorities since we arrived. One of the things they did was receive us directly on the flight when we landed in Washington. We didn’t go through the normal protocol where you have to disembark and queue. They collected all the passports of players and officials, put us on a bus, and whisked us straight from the tarmac to our team hotel,” he told Joy Prime TV.
Asante Twum further added that the team currently trains at the American University, where the environment has been safe with no reports of danger so far.
“The following morning, they returned the passports to the leader of the delegation. We’ve been in constant touch with them. They provide security when we train at the American University Stadium. It’s been cordial so far. There haven’t been any reports whatsoever regarding player safety. All is okay, and conditions are very good as well,” he added.
The tournament, taking place in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, will begin on Thursday June 11, 2026.
Ghana will compete against England, Croatia, and Panama in Group L for a place in the knockout stage.
