Frank-Kamal Acheampong is expected to be part of GhanaWeb’s leading commentary and analysis team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, a milestone that reflects how far he has climbed within Ghana’s sports media landscape.

His rise has not been sudden. It has been gradual, shaped through years of writing, broadcasting, producing, and reporting across multiple platforms.

From campus studios to national television and radio spaces, Frank-Kamal has built a profile defined by versatility and consistency.

What makes the 2026 World Cup expectation significant is not just the platform itself, but what it represents.

It signals a shift from being a contributor behind production desks and studio panels to becoming a central voice in live football interpretation on one of the biggest sporting stages in the world.

Background: From Campus Radio to Continental Football Reporting

Frank-Kamal Acheampong’s journey began during his time at the UNIMAC Institute of Journalism, where he developed his foundation in sports reporting and broadcasting while still a student.

Even at that early stage, he was already active in sports media spaces, including a stint at Givens Radio in 2021, where he worked as a sports show host and gained his first real experience behind the microphone in a live radio environment.

His development continued at the Ghana Institute of Journalism, where he took on more responsibility as the sports editor for the GIJ website while also hosting the campus sports show.

These roles helped him sharpen both his editorial judgment and his on-air confidence, giving him experience in balancing written analysis with live presentation.

In 2021, while still a student, he took a major step into continental football coverage when he reported on the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

At that time, he was not attached to a major media house, and his trip was made possible through the support of a brother who believed in his potential enough to fund his journey.

That experience placed him directly in the demanding environment of international tournament journalism, where he had to adapt quickly and operate in high-pressure conditions.

By 2023, his progress had become even more visible when he covered the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, this time travelling by bus from Ghana to Côte d’Ivoire in order to be present at the tournament.

It was a decision that reflected both determination and commitment to being close to the story, regardless of the difficulty of the journey.

Between these continental assignments, his career at Media General in 2023 marked a major professional breakthrough.

He interned at the organisation for about a year before moving into national service within the same media group, and during that period he became involved in multiple production and on-air roles across the network.

He contributed to the production of 3FM Sunrise Sports, appeared and contributed to 3Sports “Ultras”, and also featured occasionally as a host on 3FM Sports Drive.

He further took on production responsibilities for the sports segment of the maiden edition of TV3’s Afternoon Show, while also establishing himself as a pundit on Sports Ultras, alongside his continued work in sports reporting and news writing.

Across all these stages, what stands out is how he moved between roles without being confined to one identity.

He was a writer, a producer, a presenter, and a commentator in development at the same time.

Now, with GhanaWeb’s expected commentary and analysis duties for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Frank-Kamal Acheampong appears to be stepping into the space where all those experiences converge.
