Former Vice President of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has thrown his support behind the Black Stars as they prepare to begin their FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign against Panama on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.

With anticipation building across the country ahead of Ghana’s opening Group-stage match, Dr Bawumia delivered a message of encouragement, urging the team to embrace the challenge and make the nation proud on football’s biggest stage.

“Football has always been part of us as a nation. It has always united us and it brings the world together,” he said.

The former vice president highlighted the unique role football plays in bringing Ghanaians together, regardless of background, and expressed confidence in the team’s ability to perform on the global stage.

“As the Black Stars start their journey at the 2026 World Cup, I want to wish them the very best,” he added.

Dr Bawumia also reminded the players of Ghana’s proud history at the World Cup and encouraged them to draw inspiration from previous generations that carried the nation’s hopes at the tournament.

“Black Stars, you have done it before and you can do it again. The nation is behind you and I am behind you. Go for gold,” he added.
