Thomas Partey (in yellow jersey) and Kwasi Sibo are Black Stars players
Ghanaian midfielder Kwasi Sibo has vowed that the Black Stars will do everything possible to defeat Panama in honor of Thomas Partey, who will miss the match.
The Villarreal midfielder will be absent from the opening game in the FIFA World Cup against Panama on June 17, 2026, after being denied entry to Canada due to his rape charges.
His efforts to overturn the decision through an appeal were unsuccessful, as the court rejected his request.
Black Stars' World Cup outreach event becomes talking point
Heading into the game, Sibo stated that the squad is unhappy with the ruling, as it deprives one of the team’s best players of the opportunity to feature in the match.
Sibo noted that the entire squad is fired up and poised to beat Panama to make Partey and his family proud amid his troubles.
“Our brother has been through a lot, and we are always with him. He is one of the biggest stars in our team, but because of this, we have to make sure we win the game for him as a family and make him happy, since he has been with us from the first day we started this campaign. It hurts that we are playing our first game and he’s not with us. We are giving him our word,” he said, as reported by adomonline.com.
