Carlos Queiroz has made several eye-catching decisions in naming his starting lineup for Ghana’s opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup against Panama on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.

The biggest talking point is the return of Lawrence Ati-Zigi, who reclaims the number one spot despite losing his place to Benjamin Asare in recent months.

The goalkeeper, who started for Ghana at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, has been handed the gloves for the Black Stars' first match of the tournament.

In defence, debutant Marvin Senaya is set for both his World Cup debut and his first major international tournament appearance at right-back. He joins Jonas Adjetey and Jerome Opoku in central defence, while Gideon Mensah starts on the left side of the back four.

With Thomas Partey unavailable, Queiroz has turned to youth and energy in midfield. Youngster Caleb Yirenkyi gets the nod alongside Elisha Owusu as Ghana look to control the middle of the park.

Jordan Ayew set to become Ghana's oldest-ever FIFA World Cup player against Panama

Further forward, captain Jordan Ayew starts alongside Antoine Semenyo and Ernest Nuamah, with the trio expected to provide support for lone striker Kamaldeen Sulemana.
