Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang was in a jubilant mood after the Black Stars netted a last-gasp goal to defeat Panama in their opening game of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on June 17, 2026.

The Veep, who was seated among dignitaries, immediately stood up, beaming with smiles and visibly excited by the result.

She did not just stand up; she also performed brief dance moves, cheerfully moving her hands and body in rhythm with the atmosphere among the fans.

Her presence signaled the government’s intentional support for the national team, reinforcing its commitment to ensuring that the Black Stars perform well and make history to make Ghanaians proud.

Other officials present included Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku, who appeared composed during the celebrations, as well as Black Stars’ all-time top scorer Asamoah Gyan, who was filled with smiles at the moment.

The team did not fare well in the first half, as their opponents largely dominated play but failed to capitalize on their chances.

The second half began with renewed momentum for the Black Stars after coach Carlos Queiroz introduced Thomas-Asante and Issahaku, whose exploits led to the last-gasp goal scored by Caleb Yirenkyi.

After England’s 4-2 win against Croatia, the Three Lions lead Group L with three points, alongside Ghana, while Panama and Croatia sit third and fourth with zero points after the first round of matches.
