Ghana’s viral World Cup supporter, Kailani Ibrahim Kpa, popularly known as “Powder Guy”, has appealed for support after revealing that he has exhausted his personal funds while following the Black Stars at the ongoing FIFA World Cup in the United States and Canada.

The passionate football fan, who has become one of the tournament’s most recognisable Ghanaian supporters because of his signature appearance in the stands, said he financed the entire trip from his own pocket but can no longer afford to continue.

In a Facebook post, Powder Guy explained that every aspect of his journey, including visas, flights and other travel expenses, was paid for with his own resources out of his love for Ghana.

“I have done my best. I got my own America & Canada visas, bought my own flight tickets from Accra to Toronto, Toronto to Boston, & Boston to Philadelphia all with my own money, my own energy, & my own time because of my love for our beloved country, Ghana,” he wrote.

Social media users accuse Ghana of using 'powder juju' to beat Panama

According to him, the sacrifices have been worthwhile as Ghana’s performances and the enthusiasm of its supporters have attracted global attention during the tournament.

“Today, everyone can see that Ghana is one of the trending stories around the world. International news stations and social media platforms are talking about our team,” he stated.

However, Powder Guy disclosed that this year’s World Cup has been the most financially demanding of the four FIFA World Cups he has attended in support of the Black Stars.

He admitted that without assistance, he is unlikely to be present for Ghana’s next fixture against Colombia in Kansas.

“This has been the most expensive World Cup I have ever attended out of the four World Cups I have travelled to support Ghana. It will be difficult for me to attend our next match if I don’t receive some support,” he said.

The supporter appealed to the Government of Ghana, the Ghana Football Association (GFA), the Ministry responsible for Sports, Ghanaian business leaders and well-wishers to assist him with logistical support rather than direct financial donations.

“I am appealing to the Government of Ghana, the Ghana Football Association (GFA), the sports ministry, Ghanaian businessmen & women, and all well-wishers to support me with match tickets, hotel accommodation, and flight tickets for our next game in Kansas against Colombia. I am not asking for cash,” he explained.

He stressed that his request was motivated solely by his desire to continue representing Ghana from the stands, adding that other supporters could also benefit from similar assistance.

“If I was able to support myself from the beginning but have now run out of funds, this is the time for Ghanaians to come together and support one of their own. Your support will help me continue representing Ghana with pride and passion from the stands. Thank you, and God bless Ghana,” he added.
