Kofi Adams is the Minister of Sports and Recreation
Sports and Recreation Minister, Kofi Adams, has addressed the controversy surrounding the government’s distribution of free tickets to Ghana fans at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, detailing exactly who benefited from the allocation.
The issue sparked heated debate after hundreds of Ghana supporters were left stranded outside the stadium before the Black Stars’ group-stage clash against Croatia, with many claiming they had been promised tickets that never materialised.
Speaking on Sporty Breakfast, on June 29, 2026, Adams explained that the government’s allocation was distributed to specific groups rather than individuals on a first-come, first-served basis.
According to the minister, members of the Ghana Supporters Union who travelled from Accra were among the first beneficiaries.

“Out of the tickets that we procured, the supporters union members that came from Accra had to be served,” Adams said.
He added that stakeholders from the Ghana Football Association (GFA), the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), the Ministry of Sports and Recreation and its allied agencies also received tickets.
Beyond officials, Adams disclosed that Ghanaians living abroad were also catered for, including organised Ghanaian community groups and student associations based in the United States.
The minister also dismissed claims that some of the tickets had been diverted for sale, describing such allegations as false.
“People told barefaced lies that the tickets were being sold at a supermarket in the US. Unfortunately for them, they didn’t know that the tickets for this World Cup are electronic and not physical tickets,” he stated.
