Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams has declared that the Black Stars remain firmly focused on winning the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite the tournament reaching the knockout stage.

Speaking on Sporty FM's Sporty Breakfast, Adams outlined the team's progression through the competition and expressed unwavering belief in their ability to go all the way.

"When we started, there were 48 teams, and we were confident that we were also chasing the trophy. Now the number has been reduced by 16, and 32 are going to the next round. We still think that we are heading towards clinching the trophy," Adams told Sporty FM.

"Some have started falling out, and I know we will be part of the 16 who will continue to chase, and we will be part of the eight who will continue to chase, and then eventually the two. So that is our project. That is what we are working towards, and I want us to focus on this."

The Black Stars have advanced to the round of 32, where they will face Colombia on July 4 in Kansas City.

Ghana finished third in Group L with four points after a 1-0 victory over Panama, a goalless draw against England, and a 2-1 defeat to Croatia.

Adams' confidence reflects the belief within the Ghanaian camp that the team can surpass their best-ever World Cup finish – a quarter-final appearance in 2010.

The Black Stars will need to navigate a challenging knockout path, starting with Colombia, if they are to realise their minister's ambition.
