L-R: Ati-Zigi, Semenyo and Jerome Opoku are Black Stars players
The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has confirmed that there are no major injury concerns for the Black Stars ahead of their Round of 32 game.
Ghana will take on Colombia in a crucial Round of 32 clash in Kansas City on July 4, 2026, to determine who advances to the next stage of the competition.
Asante Twum indicated that goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi has fully recovered from his injury and is back in training with the team. His starting role will be decided by head coach Carlos Queiroz.

"Lawrence has been training. I think the reason he wasn’t put in the game against England was precautionary, because once it has something to do with his groin area, you don’t want to aggravate that pain. Goalkeepers normally go in for long balls and long kicks, so if care isn’t taken and he makes two or three long kicks and the pain returns, it changes the dynamics of your game.
"So, the goalkeeper coaches, Fatawu and Dan Gaspar, decided to rest him for the England game. Once Benjamin Asare came in and things went well, they stuck to that decision for the next game as well. Lawrence is training okay, he looks lively, and the pain is gone. From now onwards, the decision lies with the coach on who can play and who cannot," he told Gary Al-Smith in an interview sighted by GhanaWeb on July 1, 2026.
He added that Antoine Semenyo is fit to feature after picking up a knock in the game against Croatia.
"The doctors have been working on him since we played in Philadelphia. He had initial pain in the ankle, but from the day of the game through to yesterday and this morning, he’s fine. He’s able to walk freely without support, and he says the pain has reduced drastically, so he should be fine for the match," Asante Twum explained.
The GFA spokesperson also confirmed that center-back Jerome Opoku is ready to play the Round of 32 tie without any injury concerns.
