Cristiano Ronaldo plays for Portugal
Legendary footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has said that he has not yet made any decision about retiring from international football, despite reports suggesting otherwise.
Ahead of Portugal’s Round of 32 game against Croatia, Ronaldo’s sister claimed she had received information that her brother may not continue with the national team after the 2026 World Cup.
She urged fans to enjoy his football during the tournament, hinting it could be his last outing with Portugal.

"From the information I have, they can say goodbye. Not today, but I believe this is the farewell. I’m talking about the national team. From a reliable source, it’s the ‘last dance’ at the World Cup," she told Sport TV outside Toronto Stadium.
However, after Portugal’s 2-1 win over Croatia to advance to the Round of 16, the Real Madrid legend dismissed those claims, insisting no such decision has been made.
He explained that making such announcements during the tournament would be reckless, stressing that any official decision will come afterward.
"I don’t make reckless decisions. I will decide after the tournament, not now," he told the media after the game.
Ronaldo scored a penalty to help his side advance to the next round, where they will face Spain in a fierce encounter to determine who progresses to the quarter-finals.
The multiple Ballon d’Or winner is aiming to clinch his first World Cup title to cement his legacy and possibly complete his trophy cabinet.
