The once-pristine Borteyman Sports Complex, one of the flagship venues built for the 2023 African Games in Accra, has fallen into a worrying state of neglect.

A video shared by veteran journalist Jonny Hughes has sparked concern after revealing the current condition of the multi-million-dollar facility.

The footage shows weeds overrunning large sections of the complex, including the drainage systems and the football pitch, raising questions about the maintenance of one of Ghana's newest sporting infrastructures.

Hughes, who visited the complex, expressed his disappointment at what he described as the country's persistent lack of a maintenance culture and sense of responsibility.

According to him, seeing such a significant national investment deteriorating so quickly was disheartening.

Constructed to host events during the 2023 African Games, the Borteyman Sports Complex was expected to serve as a lasting legacy for sports development in Ghana.

However, the images emerging from the facility suggest that routine upkeep may not have kept pace with expectations.

The video has since generated discussion on social media, with many Ghanaians calling on the relevant authorities to restore and properly maintain the complex to prevent further deterioration and protect the substantial public investment made in the facility.
