Alexander Djiku is a Black Stars defender
Black Stars defender Alexander Djiku has disclosed that avoiding media criticism has been one of the keys to maintaining consistency throughout his football career.
The Spartak Moscow centre-back says he deliberately stays away from newspapers and online commentary, choosing instead to focus on his performances and the support of his family.
Speaking in an interview on Beyond the Whistle, Djiku explained that footballers must develop a strong mentality to cope with criticism and setbacks.

"When you have a good game, you feel good, and your family are proud of you. But if you start to read all the media, sometimes your head can be down, and you can be hurt," he said.
The 30-year-old added that while criticism is part of professional football, he has learned not to let outside opinions affect his performances.
"You have to accept the criticism and accept everything. But me, as a footballer, I don't read a lot in the newspapers. I stay focused on what I have to do, and then I do my job," Djiku noted.
The defender also credited his mental strength and ability to adapt at every stage of his career for helping him reach the top level.
According to Djiku, injuries, competition for places and periods out of the team are inevitable in football, but maintaining the right mindset is what separates successful players from the rest.
