I'll quit if you go after my family - Klopp warns German fans

New Germany head coach Jurgen Klopp has delivered a passionate message to supporters, warning that he will walk away from the national team if criticism crosses the line and targets his family.

Speaking during his introductory press conference after being unveiled as Germany's new head coach on Friday, July 24, 2026, Klopp made it clear that while he is prepared to accept criticism of his work, he will not tolerate personal attacks on those closest to him.

The former Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund manager, who has signed a four-year contract with the German Football Association (DFB), acknowledged the intense scrutiny that comes with leading the four-time world champions.

Addressing the German public directly, Klopp referenced the criticism his predecessor, Julian Nagelsmann and former Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel faced but insisted he was still ready to take on the challenge.

“I’m not doing this job for myself. I’m doing it for you. I’m taking this job even though I’ve seen how you’ve treated Julian Nagelsmann. I’m taking it even though I’ve seen how you’ve treated Thomas Tuchel."

Klopp then issued a firm warning over where he believes the line should be drawn.

“If you go after my family, I’m gone. If you think I’m rubbish, tell me to my face and I’ll leave immediately, without asking for any compensation,” he added.
