'I could have been sacked after one month' - Otto Addo reveals tensions with Kurt Okraku

Former Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has revealed that his two-year spell in his second coming in charge of Ghana's senior national team was marked by frequent disagreements with Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku and members of the federation's board.

Speaking in an interview with German football publication Fußball, Addo reflected on the circumstances leading to his dismissal in March 2026, saying he never received an official explanation from the GFA.

The former Borussia Dortmund assistant coach suggested that his relationship with the football authorities was often strained, creating an atmosphere in which he constantly felt his position was under threat.

"Honestly, I still haven’t been given a reason to this day and honestly, I didn’t ask either. I was in Ghana for two years as coach. There was, of course, a lot of back-and-forth between me, our federation president, and the board as well. It just felt like I could have been sacked after just one month," he said.

Addo's comments are the clearest indication yet that internal tensions may have contributed to the end of his tenure, which came shortly after Ghana's defeats to Austria and Germany in international friendlies ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Despite his exit, Addo had guided the Black Stars to qualification for the World Cup after topping their qualifying group, making his dismissal a subject of debate among football fans and pundits.
