President of the Ghana Basketball Federation (GBBF), Alex Kukula, has revealed that the federation’s long-awaited new constitution is in its final stages, with approval expected before the end of his administration’s first year in office.

In an interview on Sporty FM, Kukula said the draft constitution has already been completed but must undergo a mandatory review and approval process before it can be adopted.

He explained that the document will first be circulated to the federation’s constituents for scrutiny and feedback before being presented to Congress, the GBBF’s highest decision-making body, for final approval.

“The statutes are ready, but they have to go through a process. The draft is ready, and in the next few days, we’ll send it to the constituents for them to critique it. After that, we’ll have the final version and call Congress to pass the constitution,” Kukula said.

He noted that because the changes involve amendments to the federation’s constitution, Congress must formally adopt the document before it takes effect.

Kukula stressed the importance of allowing stakeholders enough time to study the proposed amendments, emphasising that constitutional reforms require broad consultation and consensus.

“With constitutional matters, you need to give everybody the time to go through it, so by the end of our first year in office, the new constitution should be ready,” he added.
