GFA issues final warning as July 31 club licensing deadline draws near

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has issued a final reminder to all Ghana Premier League clubs that Friday, July 31, 2026, remains the deadline for completing the mandatory club licensing process, warning that no further extensions will be granted.

In a statement released by the GFA's Club Licensing Department, clubs were urged to submit all required documentation through the Club Licensing Online Platform (CLOP) before the deadline to avoid sanctions that could jeopardise their participation in the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.

The Association stressed that compliance with the Club Licensing Regulations is compulsory for every club competing in the top flight. Any club that fails to satisfy the licensing requirements by the stipulated date risks being denied a licence, which could ultimately prevent it from taking part in the upcoming campaign.

As of 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 27, seven clubs had completed the licensing process. They are Accra Hearts of Oak, Asante Kotoko, Dreams FC, Medeama SC, FC Samartex 1996, All Blacks United and Basake Holy Stars.

A further five clubs - Debibi United, Karela FC, Bechem United, Port City FC and Vision FC - were still in the process of completing their applications.

Meanwhile, six clubs had yet to begin the licensing process. These are Aduana FC, Berekum Chelsea, Bibiani Gold Stars, Heart of Lions, FC AshantiGold and Young Apostles, leaving them under increasing pressure to meet the July 31 deadline.

"The Department has emphasised that no further extension will be granted. Clubs that fail to complete the licensing process by the stipulated deadline risk sanctions under the Club Licensing Regulations, including, but not limited to, being denied participation in the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season," the statement said.

The GFA also advised clubs not to leave their submissions until the final hours, noting that early completion would help ensure a smooth verification process and allow sufficient time to address any outstanding issues.

Club licensing has become a key component of the GFA's efforts to improve professionalism, governance and financial sustainability across Ghanaian football. The process requires clubs to meet a range of sporting, legal, administrative, financial and infrastructure standards before they are granted permission to compete.

With only a few days remaining before the deadline, the Association has called on all clubs yet to complete their applications to expedite the process and ensure that every mandatory document is uploaded to the CLOP system on time.

The licensing process is expected to play a crucial role in determining which clubs will be eligible to compete when the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season gets under way.
