Medeama part ways with captain Kofi Asmah after five-years

Medeama Sporting Club have announced the departure of defender Kofi Asmah after both parties mutually agreed to end their five-year association.

The Tarkwa-based club confirmed the decision in an official statement, bringing to a close a successful chapter for the centre-back, who rose through the ranks to become one of the club's most influential players and eventually captain.

Asmah joined Medeama as a teenager and developed into a key figure in the Mauve and Yellow setup, playing a significant role in the club's recent successes.

During his time with the two-time Ghana Premier League champions, he helped the club secure league titles and was part of the historic squad that competed in the group stage of the CAF Champions League.

The club praised the defender for his consistency, discipline and professionalism, describing him as a respected leader both on and off the pitch.

His impressive displays at club level also earned him a call-up to Ghana's U-20 national team under coach Karim Zito, further highlighting his potential.

However, injuries and increased competition for places restricted Asmah's playing time over the past two seasons.

Despite those setbacks, Medeama said the defender remained committed and continued to embody the values and character expected of a member of the club.

In bidding farewell to their former captain, Medeama expressed gratitude for his dedication and invaluable contribution over the past five years.

"We sincerely appreciate Kofi Asmah for his dedication, leadership and contribution to the successes achieved during his five years with us," the club said.

Medeama also wished the defender the very best in the next phase of his career, adding that he will always remain a valued member of the Medeama family.
