2026 Commonwealth Games: Joe Paul and Dadzie storm into 200m semi-finals

Ghana’s sprint duo of Joseph Paul Amoah and James Dadzie safely booked their places in the men’s 200m semi-finals on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, after impressive performances in the opening heats at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Amoah produced one of the standout performances of the opening round, winning Heat 1 in 20.36 seconds.

The experienced sprinter was pushed all the way by Jamaica’s Christopher Taylor, who was also timed at 20.36 seconds, but Amoah edged the photo finish to claim top spot.

His time ranked him third overall across all the heats.

Speaking after the race, Amoah admitted the conditions in Scotland were challenging but insisted he was well prepared.

“It’s tough, but we trained in conditions like this,” he said.

His teammate, James Dadzie, also delivered a composed display, winning Heat 9 in 20.65 seconds.

Dadzie held off Gabon’s Maganga Gorra, who finished second in 20.69 seconds, to seal automatic qualification for the next round.

Dadzie’s performance earned him 12th overall in the heats.

With Amoah carrying one of the fastest qualifying times and Dadzie showing strong form under pressure, Ghana will be hopeful of seeing both athletes challenge for places in the final.
