Late Mssoudy strike sends Morocco into WAFCON quarter-finals

Hosts Morocco secured qualification for the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Algeria in a tense Group A clash on Thursday night.

The Atlas Lionesses dominated possession but were repeatedly frustrated by Algeria's disciplined defence before finally finding the breakthrough in the 84th minute through Sanaa Mssoudy, who calmly slotted home to send the home fans into celebration.

The win made it two victories from two for Morocco, who moved to six points at the top of Group A and secured a place in the knockout stage.

Algeria remain on three points and will battle for qualification in their final group match.
