Ghanaian boxer Amadu Mohammed won a bronze medal for the nation, while other athletes suffered setbacks on Day Eight of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
Amadu lost in the men’s 55kg semi-final bout to Australia’s Jye Dixon by split decision. However, reaching the semi-final stage guaranteed him at least a bronze medal, securing Ghana’s second medal of the Games.
Speaking after the bout, Amadu urged Ghanaians to be patient and expect improved performances in the future.

“I beg Ghanaians to have patience. I’m not happy because this is not what I expected,” he said.
It was a disappointing outing for sprinter Joseph Paul Amoah, who finished seventh in the men’s 200m final after clocking 20.50 seconds. Despite high expectations, he missed out on a medal.
“I could have done better. The conditions here are not the best,” Amoah admitted after the race.
Seventeen-year-old Frema Agyei’s medal hopes also ended after she lost in the women’s 57kg judo bronze medal bout to England’s Lele Nairne.
Para wheelchair racing athlete Botsyo Nkegbe finished eighth in the men’s 1500m T54 final with a time of 3:48.41, adding to Team Ghana’s setbacks at the Games.
Amadu’s bronze medal adds to para athlete Zinabu Issah’s silver medal, as Team Ghana continues its quest for more medals before the Games conclude on August 2, 2026.
