Ayittey Powers is a former Ghanaian boxer
Ghanaian boxer Ayittey Powers has apologised for issuing death threats against National Sports Authority (NSA) Director-General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, saying the comments were made out of anger and were a “slip of the tongue".
Powers explained speaking to Sporty FM that he had invested heavily in promoting a boxing event, only for him to receive a letter banning boxing activities just a day before the scheduled event.
According to the boxer, the development left him frustrated because he had spent months and his own money preparing for the promotion.
“I waste a lot of money. My brother, I don't go to school. I don't know anything to do, it's boxing, and I put my money into boxing,” he said.

He added that he had spent about three months preparing for the event, only to have the promotion affected by the last-minute decision.
Powers expressed his frustration over what he described as repeated assurances that his money would be refunded, but later acknowledged that his outburst went too far.
“So what I said there, I don't mean it, it's a slip of tongue, and I think anger, so I'm very sorry for that,” he said.
The boxer has therefore withdrawn the remarks and apologised to Ampofo Ankrah for the death threat, attributing the incident to anger and frustration over the cancellation of his boxing promotion.
