President John Dramani Mahama has increased the number of mini-stadiums to be constructed across Ghana from six to 10, Minister of Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams has announced.

Adams disclosed this at the 32nd Ordinary Session of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Congress at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram on Thursday, August 20, 2026.

According to the Minister, Mahama reviewed his earlier decision to construct six mini-stadiums and has now expanded the project to cover 10 regions.

“His Excellency has reviewed his decision and he is no more going to build the six mini-stadiums, he is going to build ten,” Adams said.

He explained that the facilities will be constructed in the Western North, Oti, Ahafo, Bono East, Savannah, North East, Upper East, Upper West and Volta regions, with the remaining beneficiary location expected to complete the 10-region plan.

Adams said the mini-stadiums will come with additional facilities to ensure they serve as comprehensive sporting centres for their respective communities.

He also revealed that the Finance Minister has already issued commencement authorization for the project, with the government now working through the processes required to award the contracts.

“We are going through the processes to get these contracts awarded and they will move to the sites immediately,” he added.

The project is part of the government’s broader efforts to improve sports infrastructure and create better opportunities for grassroots sports development.

The project is expected to increase access to sporting infrastructure across the country and provide communities with improved venues for football and other sporting activities.
