Veteran football administrator Alhaji Karim Grusah has raised concerns about the government’s decision to build ten new stadiums across the country.

Minister of Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams disclosed the plan during the 32nd Ordinary Session of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Congress at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram on Thursday, August 20, 2026.

According to the minister, President John Dramani Mahama reviewed his earlier decision to construct six mini-stadiums and has now expanded the project to cover ten regions.

However, the owner of King Faisal Football Club has opposed the initiative, arguing that there are more pressing challenges in Ghanaian football that should be addressed before focusing on stadium construction.

He lamented that the current state of football in the country has regressed significantly, with funds invested in national teams failing to yield meaningful benefits. He urged the minister to be more vigilant.

“If we build 100 stadiums and you don’t work for football to thrive, it is unnecessary. What will you do with stadiums when your football is sinking? Minister, you have work to do. He is sleeping. The funds they invested in junior national teams, tickets, and other areas, what benefits have they brought?” he questioned in Twi during an interview with Asempa FM.

Speaking on the GFA’s decision to award each GPL club GH¢1 million, with the champions set to earn GH¢3 million, Grusah expressed skepticism.

He explained that considering the huge sums required to manage a club, the allocated amount is insufficient to cover expenses. He vowed to continue speaking out despite threats.

“If I talk then I am threatened to be beaten. I won’t mention any name. I won’t sit for football to spoil. Ask the Premier League clubs if one million is enough to build a team, it only subsidizes, not sponsorship,” the football administrator bemoaned.
