Sports journalist Dan Kwaku Yeboah has stated that former Black Stars captain André Dede Ayew has acquired the necessary football experience to qualify him for the presidency of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in the future.

According to him, the former Olympique Marseille attacker has gained extensive experience in managing players and interacting with administrators within the football fraternity, making him a potential candidate for the position.

The Peace FM sports journalist also pointed out that several football associations across the world are led by former footballers who have excelled in administrative roles after successful playing careers.

Speaking on United Showbiz, aired on UTV on August 22, 2026, Yeboah noted, however, that he had not received any information about Ayew’s intention to contest the GFA presidency, particularly because the player has not yet retired from professional football.

“He has seen it all, how to manage footballers and administer, unless you are someone who is not vigilant. The Black Stars coach who gave us our biggest success, CK Gyamfi, was into coaching while still playing football. After retirement, he used the Black Stars to excel.

“Even in other federations, ex-footballers are FA presidents. In Croatia, Davor Šuker was their top player, but he is now their FA president, and there are others. So if Dede wants to do it, he qualifies. But for now, he is still playing, and I have not heard anything,” he said in Twi.

Yeboah’s comments come amid recent speculation linking Ayew to a possible bid for the GFA presidency.

The former Ghana captain has increased his visibility within the local sporting landscape through appearances at football-related events and support for teams.

Ayew is currently a free agent after spending the 2025/26 season with Dutch club NAC Breda.

The 36-year-old has enjoyed a lengthy international and club career, captaining the Black Stars and representing clubs in France, England, Turkey and Qatar, among others.
