Black Princesses suffer 3-0 defeat to Ecuador in U-20 Women’s World Cup opener

Ghana’s Black Princesses endured a difficult start to their 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup campaign after suffering a 3-0 defeat to Ecuador at the Arena Sosnowiec in Poland on Sunday, September 6, 2026.

Ecuador made a flying start to the Group C encounter, with Rosa Flores opening the scoring in the fourth minute.

Flores spotted Ghana goalkeeper Najat Salam off her line and produced a spectacular long-range strike to give Ecuador an early lead.

The Black Princesses attempted to respond, with Agnes Yeboah going close to finding the equaliser, but her effort struck the post as Ghana searched for a way back into the contest.

Ecuador continued to threaten and doubled their advantage in the 17th minute. Flores turned provider this time, setting up Domenica Arboleda, who finished to make it 2-0.

Ghana were also forced into a goalkeeping change, with Precious Asante replacing the injured Najat Salam.

The Black Princesses struggled to find a breakthrough as Ecuador maintained control of the contest.

Ecuador eventually put the game beyond Ghana in the 69th minute when Arboleda grabbed her second goal of the match to complete her brace and seal a convincing 3-0 victory.

The result leaves the Black Princesses with work to do in their remaining Group C matches as they seek to recover from their disappointing opening-day loss.
