Marvin Senaya played four games at the 2026 World Cup
Ghana defender Marvin Senaya is working his way back to full fitness after a hamstring injury ended his 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign against Colombia on July 4, 2026.
Senaya, who had established himself as one of Carlos Queiroz’s preferred options at right-back, was forced off just 13 minutes into Ghana’s group-stage encounter with Colombia.
The injury ruled him out for the remainder of the tournament and subsequently kept him away from competitive action as he began his recovery.
Following medical assessments, Senaya underwent surgery in Paris to repair the hamstring problem. The procedure was described as successful, with the defender then beginning the rehabilitation phase of his recovery.

The initial prognosis from the Ghana Football Association was that Senaya would be sidelined for at least eight weeks.
He has since continued his rehabilitation programme with his club, AJ Auxerre, as he works towards a return to team training and competitive football.
Recent updates on the defender indicated that his recovery was progressing well, with a return expected around September.
However, Senaya has yet to make his competitive comeback, meaning his availability remains something Ghana will be monitoring closely.
His situation has become particularly relevant with the Black Stars preparing for their next assignment in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Ghana are scheduled to face Ivory Coast and The Gambia in their upcoming qualifiers, with Queiroz expected to name his squad soon.
Senaya was one of Ghana’s notable performers during the early stages of the World Cup and had started the Black Stars’ opening four matches before his injury against Colombia.
His return would therefore provide Queiroz with another option at right-back as Ghana begins preparations for their next international campaign.
