The Director General of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), Matthieu Reeb, has said proceedings are ongoing to determine Senegal’s appeal against the Confederation of African Football (CAF) over the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title dispute.

He announced that both parties involved had presented their arguments in support of their respective positions, which the panel is now analysing.

Addressing the media, the CAS Director General said the panel would focus on procedural and legal issues before issuing a reasoned decision that will determine the outcome of the protracted dispute.

“I expect the decision to come not today, not tomorrow, but a few days later. The facts are set, are clear, and the discussions will be on some procedural issues and legal aspects,” Reeb said.

He noted that he understood the public’s anticipation of a final verdict but stressed that the panel was following the procedures agreed upon by the parties.

“I know it’s a long wait for the fans a few months after the final between Senegal and Morocco. The timetable and the procedural calendar were established with the agreement of the parties involved in this case,” he said.

Senegal’s decision to temporarily boycott the AFCON final after the referee awarded Morocco a penalty, which Brahim Díaz missed, before eventually returning to the pitch and winning the match, triggered the dispute.

CAF’s decision to strip Senegal of the title and award it to Morocco remains the central issue in the legal battle.
